December 14, 2010 (Pokhara, Kaski). Nepal Government selected Alternatives Rural Youth Entrepreneurship Development Center (RYEDC), Taprang, as best youth center for providing information and counseling to adolescent and youth on reproductive health, HIV/AIDS and other health issues, and awarded it with Certificate of Appreciation along with computers and other accessories.
The RYEDC was established on January 11, 2009 by Alternatives, Nepal. Since its establishment, RYEDC, Taprang has conducted various awareness, advocacy and other campaign in entrepreneurship development, adolescent and youth health, HIV/ AIDS, environment and other local issues It has also established and running Youth Information Center, Jurebhumi Youth Cooperative Society, Joint Organic Farming, and computer classes for rural youth.
December 10, 2010 (Pokhara, Kaski). The human rights community, civil society organizations and the civil society celebrated the 62nd Human Rights Day in Pokhara, Nepal with the slogan "'Speak up. Stop Discrimination ". Thousands of people took part in the Human Rights Rally organized on 10 December 2010. The rally started from Sabhagriha Chowk, Pokhara at 8:00 am and marched through Newroad, BP Chowk, and assembled in Human Rights Chowk. Dozens of civil society organizations and human rights activists took part in the rally.
Alternatives, Nepal along with various organizations including NHRC, INSEC and Civil Society Network for Peace jointly took out that rally. Carrying placards, rallists shouted slogans—'Guarantee human rights'; 'Enforce the rule of law'; 'Make the status of disappeared people public'; 'Guarantee press freedom' and 'End violence against women'.
December 8, 2010 (Pokhara, Kaski). An owl has been rescued from a person’s home at Gairapatan Pokhara that has been kept illegally for the purpose of trade. After the rescue its medical check up was done and has been released to its natural habitat. The owl was rescued by Environment Department, Alternatives along with the help of Friends of Nature, an NGO working in environment and nature. The rescued owl was Barn owl.
As an outcome of a month-long owl conservation campaign at different school of pokhara and its outskirt, the owl was rescued after the information got from the students. Recently a month long owl conservation campaign has completed in coordination of Mr. Shiva Poudel, Program Officer, Environment Department, Alternatives.
November 22, 2010 (Pokhara, Kaski). Alternatives Nepal which has been celebrating Global Entrepreneurship Week in Nepal since 2008organized various programs on the occasion of Global Entrepreneurship week 2010. Nepalese Youth Entrepreneurs Forum (NYEF)-Pokhara, BIG FM, Development Voyage and Society of Economic Journalist of Nepal, Kaski has joined hands with Alternatives in celebrating Seven Days Seven Programs in Nepal.
The GEW weeklong program ranged from promotional programs as Friendly Football Match (Entrepreneur VS Journalist) to School Campaign, Interaction Program, Entrepreneurs' Talk, Mentorship, and Seven Days Seven Heroes Radio Program, generated more than 1000 participants in Pokhara, Nepal.
